NIGERIA
A survey conducted by the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) indicates that the population of out of school children in Nigeria has increased from 10.5 million to 13.2 million, the highest in the world. Most of these children are in Northern Nigeria, where Boko Haram insecurities have disrupted academic activities. Most of the children are out of school, while some have never been to school.

Unfortunately, Nigeria is on the top of the list with the highest number of OOSC. Till 2018 findings by UNICEF, the OOSC had risen from 10.5 million to 13.5 million. However experts suggest the numbers are more than calculated by UNICEF. The kids who are studying in school are studying nothing. The worst-case scenario is; the non-learners are more than the out of school children. The administration has not been doing enough to curtail this problem. There is an urgent desire to adopt holistic approach; change mindsets, inculcating emergency educational reforms and retain children in schools. All this should be addressed without further delay.
Perhaps 13.5 million maybe more as this in an educational crisis that is ticking likes a time bomb. The whole world needs to stand out for Nigeria and bring some hope for future generations. There are several humanitarian organizations mainly private working such as Mili Vision Foundation, Slum to school, OSCEF and HACI scholarship scheme.
