Niger

The number of OOSC in African and Sub-Saharan countries has not been encouraging. With the increase of the world population, especially in the poorest wealth quintile, the hostility for primary education is becoming challenging every day.  Poor facilities in Niger school sometimes cause serious damage.  A most recent 25 children from age 5 to six were burnt dead in southern Niger. Most of the classrooms in Niger are made of wood and straw-hut that easily catch blaze. Classes are overcrowded and this blaze becomes extreme in no time.

According to the most recent report by “Save the children”, after COVID 19 1.2 million children were pushed out of the school and total number of children missing the school rose to 3.8 million after the outbreak.  The Schools have started to reopen; however, at start of 2020 still, 2 million children are not able to attend the school.

Save the children is helping by providing catch-up classes and focusing more on the literacy of girls who are between 9-13 years old. It is also helping to improve the school infrastructure in Niger.
