Costa Rica
Costa Rica is included in the countries having the highest literacy rates in Latin and South America. The education facilities for students are appreciable. The Children Out-of-School percentage of primary schools decreased to 0.074% in 2020 compared to 0.130% in 2019.
However, there are still problems in the education system of Costa Rica. The educational differences between the urban and rural areas, child labor, and violence still need to be resolved. 8% of the children are not educated due to poverty or indigenousness. Furthermore, 700 cases of violence in 2009 resulted in less inclination of children towards education.
The Costa Rican government has taken effective steps for the further educational improvement of the country. The country has successfully achieved about 93.6% of children’s enrollment in primary schools. Moreover, the government is currently focusing on secondary schools because of higher dropouts in this section. Overall, Costa Rica is trying to fulfill the goal of Education for All (EFA) under the guidance of UNICEF. The Costa Rican government pays high salaries to teachers and professionals to motivate high school and college graduates. In addition, special programs are initiated to facilitate the lack of teachers in rural areas. NGO Explorer, Costa Rican Humanitarian Foundation, and CEPIA are some NGOs serving children in the educational field.
