Chad

Chad is another sub-Saharan country that is facing an educational crisis.  Although, education is compulsory still 34% of children from 6 to 11 year of age are not going to school and more than 800,000 children between 9 to 14 years of age are trying to find ways to be in school again.  While the country is dealing with various challenges like poverty, lack of professional and skilled teachers and overcrowding in the classroom.  It is estimated that in urban areas, in one classroom, teachers have to deal with 64 children at one time. In rural areas, the situation is worse where a classroom is fully equipped with 100 children.

Chad is one of the largest refugee-hosting countries. To meet the educational demand in the country, especially in refugee camps, Educate a Child (EAC) is partnering with UNICEF and UNHCR to support the primary education structure.  EAC has initiated a project “Revitalizing Basic Education in Chad”. In the span from 4-5 year this project will reach 34,760 out-of-school children (OOSC) to provide them quality primary education.
