Bangladesh

The government of Bangladesh has played a pivotal role in improving educational reforms in the country. In the last decade, the country has been able to enroll 98% of children in primary school, more importantly; more than 50% are girls in bringing kids back to school. Despite this progress, the quality of primary education needs more.

According to USAID, nearly 44% of the kids who passed first grade are unable to read their first word and 27% of the kids who passed third grade are not able to read the English words fluently. This poor foundation discourages the children and results in high drop out from the school.

In the South Asian Region, USAID is helping Bangladesh to improve the early grade reading and writing skills. USAID is working with the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education and other non-government organizations like BRAC to introduce 1,000 “one classroom” in slum areas.
